Says treatment of Fawad no doubt in people’s mind that we are a banana republic

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan came down hard on the imported government for treating PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry like a terrorist who was taken to the court handcuffed and head covered. PTI Chairman, in a strong reaction on Saturday, flayed the imported government and said that the law of the jungle now prevails where might is right.

Imran Khan further said that the Constitution and law of the land have been totally subjugated by the Pharaohs of today “Taking Fawad Chaudhry to court handcuffed and head/face covered like a terrorist shows the low and vindictive levels imported government and the State have reached,” he added.

PTI Chairman stated: “The treatment of Fawad Chaudhry and PTI Senator Azam Swati and Shahbaz Gill before him leaves no doubt in people’s mind that now we are a banana republic.” On the other hand Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar demanded earlier release of PTI senior vice president Fawad Chaudhry and said arguments should be countered by arguments, and not by arrests.

Speaking to media, he said the government was afraid as Mr Fawad spoke the truth. “It should appear before the court to prove Mr Fawad wrong,” he added. The masses were, he said, standing beside PTI chief Imran Khan. He said if the federal government wanted to know how to counter terrorism in the country, it should get inspiration from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government. People were, he said, facing the worst inflation and businesses were closing on a daily basis.

Earlier, the PTI stalwart was taken into custody after he was booked under sections 153A, 506 and 124 A of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint lodged by Election Commission of Pakistan Secretary Umer Hameed against his “provocative speech”. Later, when Mr Fawad s brother Faraz Chaudhry came out to protest along with other PTI workers in Jhelum, the police baton-charged them and arrested Mr Faraz and other PTI workers.

It was worth mentioned here that a judicial magistrate on Saturday reserved a ruling on the police’s petition to extend the physical remand of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, hours after a sessions court overturned his decision. Chaudhry was taken into custody on Wednesday for allegedly “inciting violence against a constitutional institution” the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
