Legal fraternity in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday expressed surprise over Indian Supreme Court’s remarks that the Indian authorities “cannot play with the life of Kashmiri people by unscientific dumping and disposal of wastes” in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the valley based lawyers, preferred to remain anonymous, while talking to the media in Srinagar criticized the Indian apex court for remaining tightlipped over blatant deaths in custody, but being vocal on relatively less important issues like “unscientific dumping and disposal of wastes”. This, they said, exposed the double standards of the Indian judiciary towards the people of the occupied territory.

A bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and C T Ravikumar dismissed a plea by Municipal Committee of Bandipora against imposition of environmental compensation of Rs 64.21 lakh for unscientific dumping and disposal of solid waste.

“Is it the way you deal with matters? Is it the consciousness of your state? You cannot play with the lives of the people. Deposit the fine,” the bench said while dismissing the plea filed by the civic body.

The lawyers referred to the killing of a Kashmiri youth, Imran Bashir, on Wednesday just a day after his arrest by Indian police from Shopian, as a glaring example of how much Indian judiciary gives importance to the life of Kashmiri people.—INP
