At the invitation of the State of Qatar, H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), participated today, August 08, 2022, in the signing ceremony of the peace agreement in Doha between the Chadian transitional government and Chad’s politico-military groups after five months of negotiations, thus ending decades of wars and conflicts and paving the way for the participation of the said groups in the National Dialogue Conference to be held soon in N’Djamena.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), representatives of the United Nations, the European Union, the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), and foreign ministers of some African countries.

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the storming by hundreds of extremist settlers and a Knesset member, into the blessed Aqsa Mosque and the violation of its sanctity under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces, and the continued Israeli military aggression on the Gaza Strip, leading to the martyrdom of 31 people, including 6 children and 4 women. 250 Palestinian citizens were injured. This serious escalation constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions and covenants.

The OIC also held Israel, the occupying power, fully responsible for the possible repercussions of these serious violations aimed at imposing the temporal and spatial division of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that such an escalation would exacerbate tension and provoke continued violence and instability.

Furthermore, the OIC stressed that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif, with its entire area of 144 donums, is a place of worship for Muslims only. It also called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take immediate action to put an end to these repeated attacks and violations, and to oblige Israel, the occupying power, to respect the sanctity of the holy sites, preserve the legal and historical status of the blessed Aqsa Mosque, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.—PR
