England women thumped Pakistan by 9 wickets in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at Hagley Oval to bolster their chances of reaching the last four.

England made a meal of the 106 run target, romping to win with 9 wickets and 30 overs to spare. The huge margin of win takes England women above India on the net run rate in the points table.

Danni Wyatt scored 76 not out from just 68 balls to curb any hopes Pakistan had of an unlikely win. Heather Knight played a passive role, remaining unbeaten on 24.

Pakistan got off to an inauspicious start after being put to bat. Katherine Brunt removed Nahida Khan on the game’s first ball. It was all downhill from there are Pakistan failed to build any partnerships.

A third wicket 22 runs stand between Omaima Sohail and Sidra Ameen was their highest as wickets continued to tumble.

Sophie Eccleston and Katherine Bryant ripped apart the batting line-up with both bowlers finishing with three wickets apiece. The total of 105 could have been worse if not for Sidra Ameen’s 34 and Sidra Nawaz’s 23.

Diana Baig tried to restore some pride when bowling, picking up the solitary wicket of Tammy Beaumont. With Pakistan struggling, Wyatt played fearlessly to get herself back into form.

The win takes England women into fourth place after a disastrous start earlier for the defending champs. Pakistan who broke their long-awaited losing streak in the previous game remains at the bottom of the table.
