Nottingham Forest came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 and set up a home FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

Forest were denied a dream start at home by the offside flag when Surridge latched onto Brennan Johnson’s ball but with no VAR available it was controversially chalked off.

The visitors broke the deadlock moments later in the 13th minute as Tom Lees rose highest to power in a free header at the near post from Danel Sinani’s corner.

Surridge, on loan from Stoke, leveled the contest in the 29th minute after Yates was threaded through on goal by a fine pass by Garner but was prevented from taking a shot on goal by a brilliant tackle by Sarr. The ricochet fell kindly for Surridge who swept a first-time effort into the far corner past Jamal Blackman for his first Reds goal

Ryan Yates then connected with James Garner’s free-kick to turn things around for Steve Cooper’s men and give Forest the lead eight minutes before half-time.

Jordan Rhodes’ effort off the bench sparked Huddersfield’s late push for an equalizer but it was to no avail. Forest had great chances of their own with Manchester United loanee Garner and Djed Spence wasting superb chances to put the game beyond the visitorts reach.

Huddersfield, who have not made the quarter-finals since 1972, were on an 18-game unbeaten run across all competitions and had knocked out Premier League Burnley in the third round.

Having already seen off Arsenal in the competition’s third round and thrashing holders Leicester 4-1 in the fourth round before reaching the last eight of the FA Cup for the first time in 26 years, Steve Cooper’s side will be full of confidence while facing Jurgen Klopp’s men on March 20th at the City Ground.

Although the prospect of a meeting with Liverpool was the big prize at stake for the two teams, both sides are also pushing for promotion to the top flight with Nottingham Forest in the ninth place on the table, three points off the play-offs, while Huddersfield remains in the second place.
