Malakand people complain against delay in road repair

An open Forum (Khuli Kachehry) was held in the town hall under the supervision of Commissioner Malakand Division Syed Zaheerul Islam in which heads of all line departments,including Deputy Commissioner Hassan Abid, AC and the people also participated. In the openforum the people raised a barrage of complaints.

District Bar Association President Niaz A. Niazi Advocate said the Garamchishma road has been handed over to the National Highway Authority (NHA) who awarded tender for its maintenance and repair which was blocked by a contractor in Julywho put material on the road, causing severe inconvenience to commuters..

On the arrival of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who was visiting Chitral, the contractor started blacktopping work on this road, by closing the traffic and people were going on the dirt road with the airport, butwhen the Chief Minister returned, The work was also stopped and all the machinery was shifted to another place overnight.

Niazi said that it was nothing but cheating, betrayal of the people and throwing dust in the eyes of the government.

The commissioner directed the deputy commissioner of Chitral to Inquire in this regard and take legal action against the contractors and the staffinvolved in the department.

Abdul Majeed Qureshi said that the roads of Kailash Valley are very bad and hundreds of tourists visit this road every year but practical work has not started yet.

Inayatullah Asir said that a technical college building was occupied for Chitral University which affected hundreds of students learningtechnical education.

He said that hundreds of acres of land had been purchased for University of Chitral at Syedabad but work on its building had not started yet which was causing great hardship to the people.
