Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the CM Crime Surveillance Unit to digitally monitor crime trends and police performance across the province.
The unit will provide instant access to crime data from police stations, analyse 20 categories of crime and assess the performance of police officers, including DPOs, DSPs and SHOs.
It will also monitor the timely resolution of public complaints and identify relevant social media posts in line with national security requirements.
During the inauguration, Maryam Nawaz sought a police reforms plan from the inspector general of Punjab and directed officials to ensure effective use of police station records.
Expressing concern over delays in FIR registration, she instructed the police to address such complaints and respond promptly to negative propaganda against the force.
The CM said the unit would strengthen efforts to eliminate crime in Punjab, adding that the decline in crime rates following police reforms was encouraging.
