In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, family members and relatives of slain school principal staged a silent sit-in protest outside civil secretariat in Srinagar, today, and demanded justice.
Eyewitnesses told media that the members of Sikh community, majority of whom were family members and relatives of slain school principal, Supinder Kour, walked on foot from Aloochibagh to Civil Secretariat.
“The family members of Kour were carrying her body on a stretcher and when they reached the Civil Secretariat, they staged a silent-sit-in,” the eyewitnesses said.
Supinder Kour was shot dead along with her colleague Deepak Chand at a government school in Safa Kadal area of Srinagar, yesterday.
Senior police officers reached the spot and persuaded the family members of Kour to take her body to Batamaloo cremation ground for last rites.
However, the family members of Kour demanded “justice and stern punishment to the killers” before proceeding for cremation ground.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Tehreek-e-Fikr-o-Aiteqad, Maulana Sarjan Barkati in a statement in Srinagar termed the killing of the two teachers as a conspiracy against minorities in the territory.
He said that Modi’s fascist Indian government and its secret agencies were involved in killing of innocent Kashmiris and members of minority communities in the territory under a conspiracy to create a wedge between Muslims and other communities.
He called upon the people of the territory to beware of Indian designs to divide them on communal lines. He said, “The decades-old mutual trust, brotherhood and religious tolerance among Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims are the hallmark of Jammu and Kashmir which we call Kashmiriyat.”
International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK Chairman, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, in a statement castigated the nefarious elements for inciting the minorities in IIOJK against the majority (Muslim) community after the killing of the two teachers.
He said that while the killing of the teachers including a Sikh teacher is abominable but we need to remember that the Chattisinghpora massacre of Sikhs was carried out by the Indian state.
Untoo said that rather than peddling the narrative that benefits the state, the minorities should stand shoulder to shoulder with the majority community so that these nefarious elements are defeated.
He also warned such elements and said that the majority community will always stand with minorities and will not allow the elements to bring into disrepute the harmony of the two communities.—KMS
