Members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday expressed serious reservations and frustration over the vindictive attitude of the National Accountability Bureau.

During a PAC meeting, its chairperson Rana Tanveer Hussain said that if the tenure of NAB’s chairperson was extended, he would be invited to attend a PAC meeting to answer complaints against the bureau.

The members regretted that the total 25 enquiries (cases) were sent to NAB for probe during the last three years but regretted that non of these cases were finalized.
The PAC member, Naveed Qamar, said that he was kept in detention for over two years, but the courts had acquitted him. He said that NAB presumed a person guilty even before any court ruling. “How is this lawful?” he asked. He regretted that NAB made arrest on political bases on the instructions of someone else and asked the NAB to follow rule of law.

The Chairman of the PAC said that committee references were sent to NAB involved financial embezzlement, fraud or mis-use of government money and all were related to exchequer recovery.

Why the NAB put all these cases in cold storage and after passing of three years, the NAB Director General claimed that majority of these cases were near to finalization.
