The Lahore police arrested a 71-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the assault on a TikToker at Minar-i-Pakistan on August 14.
The man was set free after daylong confinement when TV reports showed him behind bars and his grown-up son crying.
The septuagenarian was identified as Wazir Khan, a resident of Shahdara. The police transferred his custody to CIA Kotwali.
His family members, however, said that their father was at home on August 14. They remarked that he has been quite sick because of which he doesn’t leave the house frequently.
A local court remanded the suspect into police custody and he was to be presented during an identification parade too.
However, the man was set free after TV channels showed him behind bars and his son appealed to the authorities with tearful eyes for his release.
The CCTV footage shows that not a single police officer was present at the time of the incident. An inquiry committee is working to determine police negligence.
