Dr. Khalid Abdullah, Cotton Commissioner, Ministry of National Food Security and Research visited the department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, field of cotton research. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bandesha, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment briefed about target of research in cotton that are achieved and will be commercialized in coming sowing season.

He said that University’s Cotton Varieties are fit for short window and for high population, jassid tolerant and Whitefly tolerant genotype and okra leaf will be encouraged.

There are other challenges that are under trial like salinity and drought tolerance. The Cotton commissioner also met with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob and discussed the cotton crop situation in the region.

He praised the contribution of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur for cotton revival.
He appreciated the research and development activities to address the farmer’s problems in cotton planting.

During briefing Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jamil Registrar, Fiaz Rashid representative of Evyol group and faculty member of department were present.

He also emphasized to establish a center for cotton crop to continue the research program for cotton revival.
