Scottish Labour named Anas Sarwar as their new leader on Saturday, ahead of an election for the country’s devolved parliament in May.
Anas, a Glasgow member of the Scottish parliament, succeeds Richard Leonard who resigned in January.
He is the son of Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, who was the UK’s first-ever Muslim MP and held the Glasgow Central seat for Labour between 1997 and 2010 — until his son Anas succeeded him, according to the BBC.
Opposition Labour’s fortunes have flagged in Scotland with the Scottish National Party the dominant force.
