Kalat shivers at -11C as cold wave grips hilly areas

Pakistan continued to be in the grip of severe cold with the temperature plunging below mercury level in several cities on Sunday. The Balochistan city of Kalat was the hardest hit where the temperature dropped to -11 degrees Celcius. However, in other areas of north Balochistan and the country’s Northern Areas the mercury dipped to minus nine degrees Celcius.
Dense fog is ruling the plain areas of Pakistan especially in Punjab and Sindh, says Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The weather in Islamabad remained pleasant with a maximum temperature of 18°C and the lowest of 5°C. Lahore experienced similar weather with temperatures dropping as low as 4°C at night and 13°C in the day.
In Karachi, the lowest temperature was between 6°C and 8°C with an air humidity of 11%. In the last 24 hours, Karachi experienced a minimum temperature of 6.1°C, Kalat recorded -11°C, Quetta Valley 8°C and Surab -9°C.
It was earlier reported that two women were found dead on Wednesday in the mountainous Zarghun area on the outskirts of the provincial capital due to extremely cold weather which has gripped the entire province for the last five days. According to police, the two women of Sariab area of the provincial capital left by foot for their village on Sunday, but died on the way on the Zarghun mountains as they did not wear proper warm clothes.
