CM Murad orders immediate removal of encroachments on canals, reservoirs

Sindh ChiefMinister Syed Murad Ali Shah has set time lines for removal of encroachments from Irrigation department properties, embankments head-works and drainage systems. He took this decision whilepresiding over a meeting to prepare a plan to remove encroachments fromIrrigation department properties. The meeting was attended by Minister irrigation Sohail Anwar Siyal, Advisor law Murtaza wahab, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, SMBR KaziShahid, Advocate General Salman Talibuddin, PSCM Sajid Jamal ABro, Secretary irrigation RafiqBuriro, Secretary katchiAbadisBaqaullahUnar and others. The meeting was told that theIrrigation department infrastructure, include three barrages, 14 canals, 109branch canals, 509 distributaries and 902 minors. The total length of the bunds spreads over 875 miles of main embankments and 450 miles other. The length of the drainage network has been measured at 837 miles. The Sukkur Barrage Command area has 361 drains with a length of 1,909 miles. Kotri Barrage Command area has2,030 miles long 361 drains. 110 drains of LBOD spread in Sukkur and Kotri Barrage with a length of 968 miles. Guddu Barrage Command area of Ghotki Feeder has five drains with a length of 4,970 miles and the under construction RBOD-II has 170 miles length. The irrigation dept has also some reservoirs such as 50 square km Keenjhar Lake, 100 square km Manchhar Lake and98 km Chotiari. The chief minister was told that out of 12,1201 encroachments, 38,634 have been removed and the remaining 103,591would be removed. Sindh ChiefMinister Syed Murad Ali Shahconstituted a committee comprising Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR), the secretaryIrrigation, Secretary Forest and Secretary katchiAbadis as members to identify government land under encroachments and suggest measures to vacate them.
