Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz has said government is committed to promotion of interfaith harmony in the country.
Addressing a ceremony organized by Radio Pakistan in Islamabad today in connection with Christmas and New Year celebrations, he said the minorities enjoy equal rights. The Minister said government treats all minority citizens as equal citizens of Pakistan and undertakes to empower them to use their abilities socially, economically and politically for national development.
He also congratulated Director General Radio Pakistan Ambreen Jan for organizing a colorful event to celebrate Christmas
Earlier, in her welcome address, Director General Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Ambreen Jan said following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam, Radio Pakistan always organizes such events to promote equal rights of minorities.
She said intolerance in the world can be effectively addressed by spreading love and affection. Speaking on the occasion, representative of Christian community Pastor Abid Paloos emphasized on promotion of love, affection and tolerance in the society. He also acknowledged the equal opportunities and peaceful environment provided by government for the Christian community in the country.
Special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of the country and a Christmas cake was also cut by the Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
The songs and a tableau presented on the occasion enthralled the audience. The event was attended by large number of members from Christian Community, senior officials and staff of Radio Pakistan.
