Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Monday said that the PTI government does not believe in political revenge and victimization, ARY News reported.
The governor was talking to media today while visiting the mausoleum of Dr. Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore to pay respects to the great poet and thinker on his birth anniversary.
“I had opposed registration of the treason case,” Governor Muhammad Sarwar said.
“The cases were not filed against the PML-N and the People’s Party by this government,” he said. “It is the matter of the accountability institutions and all these cases belong to previous governments,” he said. He said, accountability was not the job of the government or the opposition, it should be performed by the institutions.
“No talks are possible over the cases or sending the government to home,” the governor said. “Talks should be held over the key national issues,” he further said.
“Difference of opinion among political allies is part of the democratic process”, he said and expressed hope that the government’s alliance with the PML-Q will remain intact.
“We have no discontent with the PML-Q. They will remain with the government for five years, Insha-Allah. “Opposition leader’s arrest has nothing to do with the government. We do not believe in political revenge,” he said. There will be no elections before 2023. If the opposition wants talks to end accountability, then there is no such question. All institutions, including the NAB, are working with complete independence.” He was talking to the media after visiting the mausoleum of Iqbal on Monday and a wreath-laying ceremony.
The governor said that all the other political parties including PML-N and PPP are facing cases in the courts today. All these people have been making cases against each other. PTI government has not filed any lawsuit against anybody.
Replying to a question, Ch Sarwar said that the opposition wants an end to the rule of PTI government and to the process of accountability in the country. Both of these things will not happen. If there are any suggestions from the opposition regarding the progress and development of the country, they can come forward and they can hold talks on public issues, but there will be no compromise on the elimination of corruption.
In response to another question, Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar said that the decision on who should be brought to power can be taken only by the power of the people’s vote, so the opposition parties should wait for the general elections instead of holding rallies. Governor Punjab said that if any member of PML-N has been arrested by the police, it is the responsibility of the police to ensure law and order and is free to take action. We will not interfere with the police in any way. And the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan has a clear policy that no one will be retaliated against, but the rule of law is the first priority of the government.
