Youth urged to play their role in making Pakistan energy efficient country

At a seminar organized by the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) organized at Iqra University, Islamabad Campus (IUIC) speakers urged the youth to switch over to energy efficient appliances and play their role in making Pakistan an energy efficient country.
The title of the seminar was ‘Energy Efficiency and Conservation’ and its purpose was to raise awareness among university students regarding energy efficiency and conservation.
The seminar was addressed by eminent speakers from the energy sector including the Managing Director NEECA, Dr Sardar Mohazzam, NUST Professor Faisal Jamil, Iqra University’s Head of Policy Research Unit, Technical Head, as well as technical and policy experts, along with professors from academia.
They highlighted the importance of energy efficiency and conservation, in addition to its relation with policy, innovation and climate change mitigation.
MD NEECA Dr. Sardar Mohazzam briefed the audience about the NEECA efforts in providing a mandate to preserve energy in five major sectors of economy, including industry, buildings, transport, power, and agriculture. He emphasized that there is a need to build interest amongst the people of Pakistan including youth, to conserve energy in their houses and convince their families to do the same.
Prof Faisal Jamil further said that there was a strong need to change people’s behaviors toward energy consumption.
Using fossil fuel to overcome the energy crisis would affect our environment in the shape of Climate Change. In addition, he suggested that we should reduce upon the unnecessary consumption of energy in everyday use.
Head of Policy Research Unit, NEECA Sabieh Haider, also mentioned that NEECAs Policy intends to jointly work together with other energy related organizations to make Pakistan energy efficient. “We have included five major sectors in our domain because these are the most energy consuming sectors and we can easily conserve and make Pakistan efficient by reducing the energy consumption in these sectors.” The seminar ended on a high spirit with an aim to save energy in future.
MD NEECA later presented a shield to Kemal Director Industrial Linkages, IUIC for his efforts to make the event a success.
The National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (NEECA) is an Authority established under the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and serves as a federal focal agency mandated for initiating, catalyzing and coordinating all Energy Conservation activities in different sectors of economy.
