Commissioner Karachi Dr Sohail Rajput has said that there should be a separate authority for construction and development of industrial areas. “The proposal was worked out in the Karachi Transformation Plan.”
He expressed these views while addressing a function of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). Kati President Saleem Alzaman, Chairman and CEO Kite DMC Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Zaki Sharif, Vice President Nighat Awan, Masood Naqi and Zahid Saeed also spoke on the occasion.
The Commissioner said that the Malir Expressway would be inaugurated next month and construction of a bridge over the Malir River was expected to begin soon, as well as two major projects in District West.
Dr. Sohail Rajput said that the proposal of a separate authority for construction, development and management of industrial areas should be followed. In this regard, I will talk to the Administrator Karachi to include it in the Karachi Transformation Plan. He said that Kite DMC has completed standard and necessary projects with transparency from the funds received from Sindh government, this model is exemplary for industrial areas.
He said that the District Coordination Committees would be activated and it should have at least one meeting in a month in which the industrialists and all the management stakeholders could work together to find a solution.
Earlier, Kati President Saleem Alzaman welcomed the Commissioner Karachi and apprised him of the economic importance and problems of the Korangi Industrial Area. He said that unresolved basic infrastructure issues directly affect the production process and cost of the industry, so we reiterate our demand at every forum that special attention should be paid to the infrastructure of industrial areas. ۔ He said that the challenges of climate change and environment could not be tolerated, adding that immediate completion of Combined Treatment Plant projects in Korangi Industrial Area was inevitable. Zubair Chhaya said that the experience of the industrialists regarding the present local government system has been that the industrial areas do not get the required attention in it so it would be better administratively to have a separate authority for their construction and development and administrative matters.
