ISLAMABAD – Wholesome Family pictures, location tagged during an outing or a routine update posted without a second thought could reveal more than intended. Pakistani social media users are being urged to think twice before sharing such details online, as NCERT and NTC warn that seemingly harmless posts could expose family routines, locations and personal information to potential security risks.
A seemingly harmless post could reveal more than you think, as authorities tells citizens to think twices before sharing personal details online.
National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) and the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) issued public awareness warning, urging masses to think twice before posting family pictures, location tags and everyday updates on social media, cautioning that information shared casually online could potentially be exploited by individuals with malicious intentions.
The warning shows growing concern over how personal information can be exposed through ordinary online activity. Even without directly sharing sensitive details, users may unintentionally disclose information through photo backgrounds, captions, location tags and repeated updates about their routines.
NCERT and NTC even advised social media users to avoid revealing their home locations, disclosing their whereabouts in real time or publishing details that make their families’ daily schedules easy to identify.
The organizations have also encouraged people to be more selective about the personal information they share on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and X, stressing the importance of protecting family privacy in the digital world.
The advisory is reminder that once information is made public online, it may reach audiences beyond the intended viewers and could be misused. Citizens are therefore encouraged to review their posting habits, exercise caution when uploading photographs and limit the disclosure of unnecessary personal details.
