Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police in Karachi, Ahmed Nawaz, has taken swift action against 17 personnel and officers for their involvement in unauthorized street checks and issuing unwarranted challans to citizens. The crackdown comes in response to complaints of officers stopping motorists without valid reasons, causing inconvenience to the public. DIG Ahmed Nawaz suspended the officers, including a Station Officer and Record Keeper from Mahmoodabad, and ordered them to report to police lines.

Additionally, strict measures have been implemented, requiring traffic police officers to wear body-worn cameras during checks, with severe repercussions for those found harassing citizens. An inquiry has been initiated into the matter, with a warning of stringent action against any personnel found guilty of misconduct. This move follows a record-breaking day of challan issuance on December 5th, where Karachi Traffic Police issued 9,555 challans totaling Rs6.87 million, targeting traffic rule violators.
