I am extremely worried by the xenophobia which took place in South Africa recently that left a Nigerian woman dead. If native South Africans are not educated about this horrible behaviour their mindset will continue to blame migrants for all the problems they might face. While I do not accept anti-immigrant violence, I think that root causes should be tackled honestly and fervently.
Leaders of countries where these immigrants are escaping for better economic conditions should create economic environment which will discourage people from migrating to South Africa in search of better living in first place. There are an estimated four million Zimbabweans living in South Africa.
The President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa should have created better economic conditions in Zimbabwe when he took over from Mugabe and ensure that Zimbabweans living in South Africa are encouraged to return to their home country. I largely blame leaders of home countries where immigrants are coming from particularly Zimbabwe for failing to fix economic conditions to discourage citizens from migrating to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Australia, USA and UK.
