DUBAI – Pakistan and India could once again find themselves in the same group at the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, according to media reports.
The reports suggested that the traditional rivals are expected to be drawn together despite Pakistan’s less successful record against India in previous World Cup meetings.
Commercial partners are also reportedly keen on having the highly anticipated fixture included in the group stage.
Pakistan-India matches continue to attract significant attention from broadcasters during ICC events, making the fixture an important part of the tournament’s commercial appeal.
The official schedule for the 2027 World Cup is set to be unveiled in Cape Town tomorrow at 9pm Pakistan Standard Time.
The 14-team tournament will be hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe from October 2 to November 21, 2027. The one-year countdown to the event will begin on October 1.
Meanwhile, rain has washed out all four quarter-final matches in the men’s cricket category at the Asian Games 2026, sending Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh into the semi-finals based on their rankings.
The third quarter-final, scheduled between Nepal and Sri Lanka, and the fourth match between Bangladesh and Malaysia could not begin because of persistent rain in Nisshin.
The previous day also saw the quarter-finals between Pakistan and Hong Kong and India and Afghanistan abandoned due to rain. Pakistan and India progressed to the last four on the basis of their higher rankings.
Semi-Finals Schedule
The two semi-finals are scheduled to take place in Nishin on October 1.
Pakistan will meet Bangladesh in the first semi-final at 5am Pakistan Standard Time, while India will face Sri Lanka in the second semi-final at 10am at the same venue.
