KASUR – A woman allegedly set herself on fire near Kasur after a police constable, accused of raping her, was acquitted by the court, officials said on Saturday.
The local police said that the woman had lodged a rape case in 2022 against Constable Rafiq.
The court, however, acquitted the accused after his DNA did not match during the investigation.
Police said that instead of filing an appeal against the verdict, the woman sprinkled petrol on herself and attempted suicide.
She was immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, the District Police Officer (DPO) ordered an inquiry, and directed the SP Investigation to probe the matter.
The officials said that if any collusion or negligence by the investigation officer was found, departmental and legal action would be taken.
The authorities confirmed that accused constable Rafiq had already been dismissed from service.
