PESHAWAR -The police have detained a woman accused of allegedly throwing acid at a young man in the Chamkani area of Peshawar after he reportedly refused to marry her.
The police said that the woman, who was named as a suspect in the First Information Report (FIR), has been taken into custody and is currently under treatment at a hospital.
The police officials said the accused also sustained burn injuries during the alleged attack.
The acid reportedly splashed onto her hands, feet and other parts of her body, leaving her with burn injuries.
The incident allegedly took place after the young man refused the woman’s marriage proposal.
The police said the woman allegedly attacked him with acid following the refusal.
A case was registered at Chamkani Police Station a day before the woman was detained. The FIR includes allegations relating to the acid attack, and police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police said the accused will be questioned after she is discharged from the hospital. Investigators are expected to seek her physical remand from a court to formally interrogate her and gather further evidence.
The officials said the woman was also injured during the incident, which is why her medical treatment is being completed before further legal proceedings are initiated.
The investigation team is examining statements from the victim and other relevant individuals and collecting available evidence to determine exactly how the incident occurred.
Police have not yet disclosed the extent of the young man’s injuries or provided further details about his current condition.
The local police said the investigation will determine the circumstances that led to the alleged attack and whether the allegations made in the FIR are supported by evidence.
