ISLAMABAD – Thirty-three Pakistani students are set to travel to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education under the prestigious Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarship programmes.
A pre-departure reception was held at the British High Commission in Islamabad to honour the selected scholars before their departure for the UK.
The scholars will pursue studies in a range of fields, including education, healthcare, climate change, governance, business and diplomacy.
They will attend leading universities in cities including London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and Sheffield, where they will specialise in areas such as global health, human rights, media, development economics, robotics and entrepreneurship.
British High Commission officials said applications for the next round of Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships have also opened, providing Pakistani students an opportunity to apply for advanced academic programmes in the UK.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the scholarship programmes were a practical example of the strong ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
She said the programmes provide talented individuals with new skills, professional connections and valuable international experience.
Marriott expressed confidence that the scholars would use their knowledge and experience to contribute to Pakistan’s development after completing their studies in the UK.
The British High Commission said Pakistan has a strong alumni network comprising around 2,000 Chevening scholars and more than 1,500 Commonwealth scholars.
The scholarship programmes are aimed at supporting talented professionals and students from Pakistan by providing them with opportunities to study at leading UK institutions and develop expertise in fields relevant to national and global challenges.
The selected scholars are expected to return with enhanced academic and professional skills, as well as international networks that can contribute to their respective sectors in Pakistan.
The pre-departure event highlighted the continuing role of educational exchanges in strengthening people-to-people links and cooperation between Pakistan and the UK.
