LOS ANGELES – Renowned Pakistani actress Mahira Khan on Thursday expressed her views on the possibility of working in Bollywood again, stressing the importance of prioritising Pakistan’s own film industry amid ongoing regional tensions.

Mahira Khan, currently in the United States alongside actor Humayun Saeed for the promotion of their upcoming film Love Guru, attended a public event where she responded to questions from attendees.

During the session, a woman asked Mahira if she would consider working in Bollywood again. In response, Mahira said, “I believe we need to focus on ourselves — on our own industry — right now. I’m not someone who believes in cancel culture or boycotts, and I say this in a broader context.”

She further added, “I don’t think that kind of stance is the right approach. However, given the current situation, we are all emotional. Instead of advocating extreme positions, we should concentrate on improving our own circumstances,”.

Mahira Khan’s remarks come in the backdrop of strained Pakistan-India relations, during which Indian authorities imposed a ban on Pakistani artists and even removed their images from music albums and promotional content.

The Raees actress emphasised the importance of building and supporting Pakistan’s creative ecosystem.

“This is your country — your safe space. I strongly believe we must invest in ourselves and in Pakistan,” she added.

Earlier, she had commented on tensions between Pakistan and India.
