NEW YORK – US President Donald Trump has reportedly dropped his plan of launching a military action against Iran due to diplomatic efforts by Gulf countries and limited operational capabilities.
International media reported that US officials privately acknowledged that due to limited military options and operational capabilities, the US is not prepared for an attack on Iran at this time.
Gulf allies played a significant role in preventing the conflict, and US President Donald Trump made a last-minute U-turn on military action.
French news agency claimed that Arab nations convinced Trump not to attack Iran. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman reportedly made substantial diplomatic efforts to avert a potential strike.
Trump, known for his unpredictable political maneuvers, had indicated support for protesters in Iran but ultimately refrained from military action following diplomatic pressure from Gulf nations. US allies in the region offered conflicting advice on how to proceed, contributing to the indecision at the White House.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also reported to have urged Trump to delay any potential military action against Iran in a telephone conversation.
UN Envoy Address at UN Security Council
Meanwhile, the US ambassador to the United Nations has warned Tehran that all options remain on the table to stop the ongoing violence against protesters.
During a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, the US ambassador reaffirmed support for Iranian protesters, condemning the violent suppression by the Iranian government. The US representative warned that if the killing of protesters does not stop, a range of options could be considered.
He emphasized that President Trump prefers action over words and would not hesitate to act if necessary. He condemned Iran’s brutal use of force against its own citizens, accusing the Iranian government of undermining global peace and security.
The US also criticized Iran’s decision to cut off internet access, describing it as an intentional move to hide the realities on the ground. Furthermore, the U.S. envoy labeled Iran as a sponsor of terrorism and a threat to the safety of both the U.S. and Israel under the guise of religious ideology.
Iran response
Iran’s permanent representative at the United Nations, Gholam Hossein Dehghani, addressed the Security Council, denouncing the US and Israel for alleged interference in Iran’s domestic affairs. He described the U.S.-led meeting on Iran’s internal protests as “shameful” and an example of political hypocrisy.
Dehghani stated that the so-called human rights organizations were pushing an Israeli agenda and that the ongoing sanctions against Iran have directly impacted the common people. He emphasized that Iran’s security forces had acted to protect citizens, preventing violent extremist groups from exploiting the protests.
The Iranian ambassador also warned that any form of military or political aggression against Iran would be met with a robust and decisive response. He reiterated that any military intervention would violate international law and the UN Charter.
