The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, strong winds and heavy downpours across Peshawar and most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday and Sunday.
Synoptic Situation
According to the weather department, moisture-rich currents from the Arabian Sea continue to move into the country’s upper regions and are expected to strengthen by Saturday evening. A westerly weather system is also likely to reach the area on Saturday, further enhancing rainfall activity.
PMD Forecast
Under the influence of these weather systems, intermittent rain accompanied by gusty winds and isolated heavy falls is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan and Hangu throughout the weekend.
Impacts
The PMD has advised authorities to remain on high alert, warning that strong winds and lightning could damage weak infrastructure, including solar panels, electricity poles and roadside billboards. It also cautioned that landslides may occur in vulnerable mountainous areas of the province.
The department further warned that heavy rainfall could raise water levels in local streams, while urban flooding remains a possibility in Peshawar and other major cities.
Tourists have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period, while farmers have been advised to schedule agricultural activities in line with the weather and ensure proper care of livestock. The PMD added that the ongoing hot and humid conditions are expected to ease as the rain-bearing system moves across the country.
