ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had crucial contact with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian as he called for immediate restraint and renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent the situation from spiraling into a wider crisis.
During the high-level discussion, the prime minister conveyed Pakistan’s deep concern over the rapidly evolving regional security environment, stressing that preserving peace and stability must remain the foremost priority for all parties. He urged Iran and other stakeholders to avoid any actions that could derail recent diplomatic progress, warning that further escalation would threaten regional security.

Highlighting the importance of dialogue over confrontation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said diplomacy remains the only viable path to defusing tensions and preventing the crisis from deepening.
The premier also underscored the significance of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), describing it as a strategic roadmap for enhancing mutual trust, expanding bilateral cooperation, and promoting long-term regional prosperity. He emphasized the need to swiftly implement the commitments agreed upon under the framework.
Reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to peace, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured President Pezeshkian that Pakistan would continue playing a constructive and impartial role in supporting dialogue and encouraging initiatives aimed at ensuring lasting regional stability.
President Pezeshkian, in response, thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and other senior Pakistani officials for attending the funeral of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. He appreciated Pakistan’s consistent support for efforts to promote peace and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional stability despite the challenging security environment.
The two leaders also reviewed the progress made on the decisions reached during President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Islamabad and agreed to expedite the implementation of those understandings to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
The conversation concluded with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extending his warm greetings and best wishes to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, reaffirming Pakistan’s desire to deepen engagement with Iran while promoting peace and stability across the region.
