Wasim Akram Responds To Viral Death Hoax

LAHORE – Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has dismissed false reports of his death circulating on social media, urging the public not to believe fake news and AI-generated content.

The legendary fast bowler shared a video on Instagram, saying he felt compelled to respond after receiving numerous messages from people asking whether he was alive.

“I hope everyone is doing well. For the past few days, fake news about my death has been circulating on social media,” Akram said. “If people cannot distinguish fake news in this modern age, then what can we, 60-year-olds, do?”

In a light-hearted remark, he thanked those who had contacted him to check on his well-being.

“People are messaging me asking if I’m alive. No, I’m making this video after dying,” he joked, dismissing the rumours with sarcasm.

Akram criticised those responsible for creating AI-generated videos and spreading false information, saying they should use their skills for constructive purposes instead.

He also quoted a Punjabi proverb, saying that carrying books on a donkey does not make it a scholar, adding that “even imitation requires intelligence.”

Earlier, his wife, Shaniera Akram, also addressed the rumours by posting a video of Akram exercising at a gym.

In the caption, she said the video was shared in response to the fake news and AI-generated videos circulating online, adding that Akram was “at the gym and absolutely fine.”

The posts reassured the fans, many of whom expressed relief after the rumours were proven false.
