Former Pakistan international Wahab Riaz has finally assumed office as Punjab’s interim sports minister under the caretaker government.
The 37-year-old was named an advisor to Punjab caretaker Chief Mohsin Naqvi on “Sports and Youth Affairs” as part of the interim setup but was unable to see to his post due to his cricketing commitments.
It was finally confirmed that he will take up his post following season 8 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Secretary Sports Punjab Mr Shahid Zaman and DG sports Mohammad Tariq Qureshi briefed the newly-appointed advisor about the affairs in the province.
Later in the day, Wahab Riaz met Pakistan’s premier javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem in his capacity as the sports minister to discuss various issues that plague the athletes and affirmed his full support in allaying all the problems.
He also posted pictures of the meeting with the Commonwealth Gold Medalist on his Twitter account writing “Met (Arshad Nadeem) earlier today, it was nice having a sports-centric conversation. Will definitely look into the problems he highlighted and find solutions for the betterment of sports facilities and athletes across all sports”.
Wahab’s tenure may be short-lived but he seems to have settled into his new role without a hitch.
