Unjust rise in university fee
The Islamic University Bahawalpur (IUB) is one of the largest universities in South Punjab where number of students in different departments exceeded sixty thousand. Students from remote areas usually opt for this university in order to obtain quality education and most students hailing from poor families apply for admission.
Being the only university in this area, it ought to provide free education to needy and deserving students, yet unfortunately due to a recent increase in admission fees at IUB, it has become a barrier not for newly admitted students but also for those enrolled earlier. Many universities under HEC have not hiked fees, as did IUB.
The sudden increase in semester and hostel fees up to rupees 15 to 20 thousand has literally forced parents to wind up their children’s education. Instead of providing maximum scholarships for needy students, IUB is jeopardising students’ future. Students of 3rd and 4th semester are compelled to leave their education just because they could not afford university fees and as a result wasting many years. Inflation has already broken common man and now rising fees for students day by day is increasing the load too. Hence the VC of IUB and Government of Punjab must take immediate steps and reduce the admission fees and other expenses. Let the youth get education to become a medium for development in the country.

Misuse of Internet
Internet is a technological tool for the people of 20th century. It is useful, especially for students, teachers, doctors, businesses etc. Because Internet provides informative material for them what they search for. Unfortunately, majority of people do not use it in a proper way. Most youngsters are wasting their precious time using Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp, tweeter etc without any purpose. Due to over indulgence and misusing of Internet, many students have lost interest in their studies. Apart from this, many people open fake accounts on social networking sites and email ids so that they anonymously threaten people and make them worried. Many boys created girls’ ids aimlessly and chat with others just for wasting time. The misuse of the Internet is not only a bad habit but also a waste of time. Thus, this technology that has many positive aspects should not be used negatively.

Education for Afghan girls
Our religion has stressed religious and worldly education for men and women. No society can progress if girls don’t become doctors, engineers, educationist and scores of other fields. I don’t understand why girls are being denied education in Afghanistan? Are tribal traditions more important then Islam? When Malala Yousafzai said that let girls study, she was attacked by terrorists. I request all to change their attitude and let their girls study and be educated in Afghanistan. If girls are educated they will be against violence and harassment as education makes you confident.

An emerging flash point
Taiwan conflict has caused tension in US-China relations. As soon as Nancy Pelosi, US house speaker, announced her visit to Taiwan China started conducting military exercises on its borders with Taiwan and give a clear statement that they will not allow any type of American interference in Chinese territory. Back in 80s and 90s neither the US nor the USSR considered China as a major threat. China with a large population provided cheap labour so industries started shifting from the West and in coming decades it became China’s strongest point. And as China started growing as an economic giant it few years back initiated Belt and Road initiative (BRI). US and western world became wary of the fact that China has brought its own economic system in the world, challenging decades old western capital system.

Love marriage
Why love marriages mostly fail despite the fact that couples get married through their own consent and don’t involve others. According to a Gallup survey carried out in 2019 58% of love marriages break their relations and opt for divorce. Reasons behind such divorces are ego, misunderstanding and lack of respect by both parties. According to a news report, in Lahore, within 10 days 500 divorce cases were filed in family courts and main reasons were domestic conflict and unemployment by men. Thus, the so-called love marriage ruined the lives of both men and women. We have to be careful in this regard to prevent such episodes in our life.

Buying real estate abroad
The people of Pakistan must have read this news with interest that Pakistanis hold eighth position among buyers of real estate in Dubai. According to property consultancy Beer, property prices in Dubai rose by 85% in the first six months of this year. Due to Russia-Ukraine war, Russian citizens invested in large numbers. Indian, British, Italian and French nationals are also among the buyers of properties. It is to be seen which Pakistanis invest abroad as the country is suffering from massive economic depression for last several decades, and situation is getting worse. Every government makes claims of improvement but take loans from foreign countries and financial institutions to run the affairs.
In these circumstances, when the country as a whole is suffering from an economic crisis, government has to impose new taxes on common citizens, who are the ‘lucky citizens’ who can use resources in countries like Dubai? If the citizens of Pakistan have come to eighth position in purchasing property, it is proof that they cannot be ordinary Pakistanis.
These may be those who have wealth from various sources. After this news, it is the responsibility of relevant government institutions to investigate where these rich people got so much wealth and if it was obtained through legal means? Action should also be taken against them according to law.
