The United States will provide an additional $327 million in aid to Afghanistan to shore up humanitarian assistance, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday.
This assistance from the United States will continue to support the scaled-up humanitarian response in Afghanistan and neighboring countries through international humanitarian organizations,” Blinken said in a statement.
“When the Taliban forcibly took power in Afghanistan, Qatar played an indispensable role in helping the United States relocate tens of thousands of at-risk Afghans, aid workers, diplomats, and others. More Afghans came through Doha than any other place in the world. The work continues, as Qatar continues to provide a transit point for Afghans who are on their way to starting new lives in the United States,” said Blinken.
“We have a partnership that is both bilateral, it’s regional, and increasingly it’s global. And we’ve seen that just in recent months and recent years in a whole variety of places – the cooperation that I mentioned on Afghanistan,” said Blinken.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy said that the most aid from the United States has been in humanitarian sectors and this country should transfer the frozen assets of Afghanistan to the caretaker government to grow the current government economy.
“The aid of the international community, including the United States of America, is mostly in the humanitarian sector, our request is that the aid be used in the developmental sector and the frozen assets of Afghanistan be transferred to the Islamic Emirate,” said Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy minister of the Economy.
While in Qatar, Blinken visited a camp of Afghans that are expected to transfer to the United States soon.
“If it is true that Qatar can invest the money it has under the agreement in the infrastructure of Afghanistan, it has not yet done so,” said Torek Farhadi, a political analyst.
Earlier, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction reported that still now Washington is the biggest donor of Afghanistan aid and has given $1,100,000 dollars to the country, But the details of how this aid will be used are not available.—Tolonews
