The inauguration ceremony of the first-year students of University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD) at the University of Lahore was held on Tuesday.
Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Professor Dr. Mahmood Ayaz participated as a special guest. The ceremony was attended by Principal UCMD Professor Dr. Mahwish Aruj, Dean Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Maghsood A. Baig, Director Dr. Naseer Mahmood, MS Dr. Zahid Parvez, Director Careerstone School Wajiha Rauf, Dr. Sikander Afzal, Justice Mr. Bilal Khan, Dr. Atif Kazmi, Dr. Munir Saleemi, and other faculty members and a large number of students along with their parents. In the oath-taking ceremony of the 2024 students, Professor Dr. Maghsood A. Baig took the oath from the first-year students of medicine and dentistry. Addressing the ceremony, special guest Professor Dr. Mahmood Ayaz said that you are about to embark on a great journey where you will be able to serve humanity. Medical education is different and challenging from any other education.
There may be millions of students in Punjab, but only a few thousand are capable of becoming doctors. You are fortunate to have the opportunity to receive medical education at the University of Lahore because this institution is no less than any government medical college or university in terms of quality. It is because of this standard that old institutions like King Edward have collaborated with the University of Lahore. By becoming doctors, you will serve humanity, and Allah will bless you with His rewards. During your education, pay attention to acquiring new knowledge and robotics skills. In UCMD, you will also have access to skill labs along with the module curriculum. Principal UCMD Dr. Mahwish Aruj, while addressing, welcomed all students to medical education.
This is the dream for which you have worked all your life, but more hard work is needed to fulfill this dream. UCMD is not just an institution; I promise you will receive the best training here.
The best faculty will train you. More attention is given to clinical skills here, and from the very first day, you will be sent to the hospital. The University of Lahore has five teaching hospitals where you will be trained. Dean Professor Dr. Maghsood A. Baig, while addressing, said that your parents have worked hard for this day, so it is your responsibility not to disappoint them. Parents should continuously monitor their children’s activities and check their daily routines. Often parents realize later that their son or daughter was not fully present, which causes them distress. MS Dr. Zahid Parvez, at the end of the ceremony, thanked all the guests, faculty members, and parents, saying that there is no better field than medicine. You are fortunate to be studying at UCMD.
Now your parents’ job is done, and your hard work begins. After obtaining an MBBS or BDS degree, you will be able to fulfill the duty of serving humanity. At the end of the ceremony, students released balloons into the air.
