KARACHI – The UAE Mission in Karachi has introduced temporary changes to working hours in response to the ongoing severe heatwave affecting the city.
According to a statement, UAE Consul General Dr. Bakhit Ateq has directed special protective measures for staff to ensure their safety during extreme weather conditions.
As part of these measures, work will be suspended daily from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, when temperatures are typically at their peak.
The initiative also includes providing essential facilities for workers, such as shaded rest areas and access to clean drinking water. These steps are aimed at reducing the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
Dr. Bakhit Ateq emphasized that safeguarding workers during harsh weather is both a humanitarian and ethical responsibility. The measures are intended to ensure that staff remain protected while continuing their duties under challenging conditions.
Earlier this week, Karachi witnessed sweltering heat while a noticeable relief was experienced on Friday after strong sea winds dropped the temperatures in the city.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the ongoing heatwave in Sindh is likely to subside starting today, offering relief to residents after several days of extreme temperatures.
In Karachi, the temperature fell by around 3.5°C compared to the previous day, with the maximum reaching 36.5°C. This is a significant drop from Thursday, when temperatures climbed to 40°C.
Although humidity remained relatively high at 65%, the heat intensity felt milder due to strong southwesterly winds blowing at speeds of up to 42 km/h (23 knots), which helped ease overall conditions.
