US President Donald Trump has said that approval of a proposed civil nuclear agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia will be conditional on the Kingdom joining the Abraham Accords.
In a post on Truth Social, he stated that the proposed agreement between the US Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia would cover only civilian nuclear cooperation and would not permit the enrichment of nuclear material.
Trump said the arrangement would be similar to civilian nuclear agreements already in place with countries such as Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and others. He added that the agreement would be approved only if Saudi Arabia agrees to become part of the “highly respected and successful” Abraham Accords.
The US president also reiterated that the United States has no objection to civilian nuclear facilities, provided they do not involve uranium enrichment.
