NEW YORK – The Trump administration has revoked visas of over 80,000 immigrants accused of involvement in various criminal offences, including violence, theft, and driving under the influence (DUI), senior US officials confirmed on Thursday.
A senior American official said that most visa cancellations were linked to criminal cases involving assault, theft, and intoxicated driving. Out of the total, 16,000 visas were revoked due to DUI offences, while 12,000 were cancelled in connection with violent crimes.
The official further revealed that in August, the US authorities cancelled 6,000 student visas for visa expiry violations and breaches of immigration law.
Citing government sources, the news agency reported that six additional visas were revoked last month after individuals allegedly posted inflammatory content online following an attack on political activist Charlie Kirk.
Meanwhile, 120 Indian nationals residing illegally in the United States were deported on Wednesday and have arrived in India via a special chartered flight.
According to Indian media, another 120 deportees have landed in Amritsar under the ongoing U.S. immigration crackdown, marking the second group of Indian citizens expelled under the Trump administration’s intensified deportation drive. A third flight carrying 157 more Indian immigrants is scheduled to reach India later today.
Earlier, on February 5, 104 Indian nationals were deported via a US aircraft. Most deportees, Indian media reported, had entered the United States illegally through “donkey routes”—a term used for dangerous human smuggling paths across multiple countries.
