ISLAMABAD – Millions of skywatchers across the world are set to witness a rare solar eclipse on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
Where to Watch Total Solar Eclipse
On August 12, the Moon will align between Earth and the Sun, casting a temporary shadow over parts of Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, Spain, and Portugal.
Partial Solar Eclipse
Many other places in the Northern Hemisphere will experience a partial solar eclipse that day, including parts of the northern U.S. (from Alaska to North Carolina), most of Canada, much of Europe, and northwestern Africa.
For many along the western part of the eclipse path (in mainland Europe and Africa), the Sun will set while it’s still partially eclipsed, creating an opportunity to see a sunset eclipse, NASA said.
However, it will not be visible in Pakistan.

It will be first total solar eclipse to be witnessed by Europe in nearly 30 years.

How to Watch Safely
People located in regions where the eclipse is visible should never look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection. Certified solar viewing glasses or specially designed solar filters should be used throughout the event. Those outside the eclipse’s visibility path, including Pakistan, can follow the phenomenon through live online broadcasts provided by astronomy organizations or observatories.
