ISLAMABAD – In a significant move, the Ministry of Interior has officially declared Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) a banned organization, adding it to the First Schedule list under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The decision comes after a recommendation from the federal cabinet, which approved the ban on TLP following a proposal by the Punjab government.
The move categorizes TLP as a proscribed entity under the Anti-Terrorism Act, marking a crucial step in addressing concerns related to the group’s activities.
As per the procedure, the Ministry of Interior is set to forward the report to the Ministry of Law, which will then prepare a reference and submit it to the Supreme Court for further legal proceedings.
The action follows increasing pressure on the group over its involvement in various public disturbances, and the government’s efforts to curb extremist organizations operating in the country.
