WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said that the recent ban on asylum seekers in the United States could remain in place for an extended period.
Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump confirmed that no timeline has been set for lifting the suspension of asylum seekers’ claims.
“The suspension of refugee applications will remain until further notice,” Trump said. “We don’t want to accept more migrants into this country. We already have many issues to address, and we don’t need people coming in from outside,”.
Trump also criticized several developing countries, stating, “Some third-world countries are filled with crime and can’t even take care of their own citizens. The US doesn’t need people from such places.”
“How long does your Administration plan to pause asylum?”@POTUS: “A long time. We don’t want those people. We have enough problems… You know why we don’t want them? Because many of them are NO GOOD and they should NOT be in our country.” 🔥 https://t.co/ZccfB8aGH4 pic.twitter.com/9ypuhyIFUf

In addition, the President took aim at Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, the first Somali-American member of Congress, who arrived in the US as a refugee two decades ago. “She doesn’t represent America’s interests,” Trump remarked.
Two days earlier, the US government had announced a temporary halt on all decisions regarding refugee applications, sparking widespread debate over the country’s immigration policies. The suspension comes amid growing concerns about security and the integration of refugees in American society.
