LAHORE—The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) sealed 71 illegal commercial buildings and premises that defaulted on commercialisation fees in LDA-controlled areas and various housing schemes on Thursday.
LDA’s Town Planning Wing sealed 12 buildings in Gulberg, 30 in Allama Iqbal Town and Subzazar Housing Scheme, 11 in Johar town, and 18 in Township during operations against illegal commercial use and nonpayment of commercialisation fees.
The sealed premises include The Lahore Garrison School, Foster Learning, NGS School, Subhani Academy, Diagnostic Centre, Safari Hotel, a beauty salon, food outlets, offices and other businesses.
LDA teams demolished a boundary wall in Valencia Town and illegal construction on PIA Road, and sealed one building in Wapda Town and the community centre in Punjab University Housing Scheme for violation of bylaws.
LDA teams also partially demolished two buildings on Shan Bhatti Road for violation of the bylaws. LDA teams also removed illegal signboards and hoardings in LDA-controlled areas.
LDA Chief Town Planner I, Assad-uz-Zaman, and Chief Town Planner II, Azhar Ali, supervised the operations carried out by the enforcement teams with the help of heavy machinery and the Police.
According to LDA officials, several notices were served on the owners of these buildings before the operations were carried out.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq has directed continuing indiscriminate operations against violations of bylaws, illegal signboards, encroachment, illegal commercial buildings, and non-payment of commercialisation fees in housing schemes and LDA-controlled areas.
