Minister meets with ministers, delegations in Spain
The Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain led the Pakistan delegation in the 122nd session of the Council of Members of the International Olive Council in Cordoba, Spain from 19-20 November 2025.
During his speech at the plenary session, he presented Pakistan´s candidature and highlighted the potential of growing olive section in Pakistan.
He also attended the celebrations of the World Olive Day on 20th November 2025. The session welcomed Pakistan´s interest in the olive sector.
The Minister also had a meeting with the Executive Director of the International Olive Council Mr. Jaime Lillo López. They discussed Pakistan´s candidature to the organization.
The Executive Director assured of all possible technical support for the growth of olive sector in Pakistan.
The Deputy Executive Director of the IOC will pay a visit to attend the Food and Agriculture Exhibition in Karachi later this month and carry out a need assessment to understand support required by the Olive section in Pakistan.
The Minister also met with Mr. Luis Planas Puchades, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, and briefed him on key developments and potential of olive industry in Pakistan.
In addition, the Minister held meetings with his counterparts from Uzbekistan, Iran, Portugal and Tunisia on the sidelines of the main event.
They discussed matters of mutual interest and exchanged insights aimed at strengthening cooperation and advancing the development of the olive sector in their respective countries.
The International Olive Council, based in Madrid, is an intergovernmental organization in the field of olive oil and table olive.
The 47 membered organization brings together olive oil and table olive producing and consuming stakeholders and serves as a world forum for discussing policymaking issues and tackling present and future challenges.
