KARACHI – Meezan Bank Limited (MEBL), the largest Islamic bank in Pakistan, has appointed Dr. Syed Amir Ali as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from December 30, 2025.
Dr. Ali takes over the leadership role from Irfan Siddiqui, the founding President and CEO, who has played a pivotal role in establishing the bank as a leader in the Islamic banking sector.
The announcement was made public through a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), where Meezan Bank is listed. The bank confirmed that Siddiqui will continue to serve as a member of the board of directors, ensuring his continued involvement in the bank’s strategic decisions.
In the notice, the bank expressed gratitude to Irfan Siddiqui for his vision and relentless efforts that helped transform Meezan Bank into one of Pakistan’s most successful financial institutions and a global pioneer in Islamic banking. His leadership was credited for the bank’s extraordinary growth and its role in advancing Islamic finance across the country.
Dr. Syed Amir Ali brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has an extensive background in Islamic banking and holds qualifications in finance, accounting, law, and business. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Ali has a well-rounded expertise in finance, treasury, corporate banking, and investments. He has previously worked with prominent organizations like A.F Ferguson & Co, Shell, BankIslami Pakistan, and Meezan Bank itself.
Dr. Ali is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute, USA, a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK, and a Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. Additionally, he holds an MBA from Hamdard University, Karachi, and a law degree (LL.B.) from the University of Karachi.
Having joined Meezan Bank in 2006, Dr. Ali previously led the corporate and investment group before moving to BankIslami in 2018. He rejoined Meezan Bank in 2023, bringing his expertise and leadership back to the organization.
