SWAT – Police have arrested the operator of the boat that capsized at Saifullah Lake in Swat, killing six tourists, and registered a case against him as rescue teams continued searching for a missing girl for the fourth consecutive day.
The police said that the boat operator was taken into custody following the incident and booked under relevant legal provisions. They said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident and whether any negligence or violation of safety protocols was involved.
The rescue officials said search operations resumed on Saturday to locate the missing girl, who remains untraced since the boat overturned in the lake. Rescue teams are using boats and other equipment to continue the operation.
According to the rescue authorities, six people lost their lives in the accident, while two others were rescued alive. The victims were members of a family from Lahore who had travelled to Swat for a holiday.
The officials said a total of nine members of the same family were on board the boat when it capsized in Saifullah Lake. The tragedy has raised fresh concerns over the enforcement of safety measures at tourist destinations and recreational boating sites.
The local authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident. Investigators are examining whether the boat complied with safety regulations, including passenger capacity and the availability of life jackets.
The police said legal proceedings against the boat operator have begun, while rescue teams will continue the search operation until the missing girl is recovered. The authorities have also pledged to hold those responsible accountable if any negligence is established during the investigation.
