ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court has once again rejected a request to urgently fix for hearing a contempt petition filed by Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, concerning his transfer to a hospital.
Uzma Khan had filed the contempt petition over what she described as non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s August 18 order regarding Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
In her application, she requested that the contempt petition be scheduled for an early hearing, preferably during the current or following week.
The Supreme Court had ordered the authorities two weeks earlier to transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment. The court had also directed the formation of a special medical board and said that his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, would accompany him at the hospital.
In compliance with the order, Imran Khan was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) during the night between August 20 and 21 for medical evaluation and treatment.
Two specialists from Shifa International Hospital participated in his eye examination, while other medical assessments were conducted by relevant specialists at PIMS. He was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.
The petitioner said that an earlier request for an urgent hearing had been rejected by the Supreme Court registrar’s office, prompting her to approach the court again.
The petition maintained that Imran Khan’s health is deteriorating in jail and urges the authorities to comply with the August 18 order by transferring him to Shifa International Hospital for further medical examination and treatment.
The main case concerning Imran Khan’s hospital transfer has already been fixed for hearing on September 16.
The contempt petition is also scheduled to be taken up on the same day.
