LAHORE – The first total solar eclipse of the year 2026 is set to take place today (12 August) as huge number of skywatchers are ready to witness the event.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a total solar eclipse will be visible in Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia, and a small area of Portugal, while a partial eclipse will be visible in Europe, Africa, North America, the Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean.
The solar eclipse will not be visible in Pakistan.
Solar Eclipse 2026 Timings in Pakistan
The solar eclipse will begin with the partial phase at 8:34 PM Pakistan Standard Time on August 12, followed by the start of totality at 9:58 PM.
The eclipse will reach its maximum at 10:46 PM, while the total phase will end at 11:34 PM.
The partial eclipse will then continue until 12:58 AM on August 13, marking the end of the celestial event. The eclipse is also notable as Europe’s first total solar eclipse in 30 years.
