LAHORE – Pakistan’s Test preparations in England have undergone a minor change after the warm-up match against the PCC Select XI was shortened from four days to three.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have agreed to revise the duration of the fixture, which will be played at Beckenham County Ground.
According to Kent Cricket, the match will now begin on Thursday, August 13, and conclude on Saturday, August 15. The fixture was originally scheduled to start on Wednesday, August 12, as a four-day Test warm-up.
The change in schedule has also prompted arrangements for spectators who had purchased tickets for the originally planned opening day. Organisers said the full amount paid for tickets for Wednesday will be refunded in the coming days.
However, tickets purchased for Thursday, Friday and Saturday will remain valid and can be used for the revised three-day fixture.
The warm-up game is expected to provide Pakistan with valuable match practice ahead of their three-Test series against England. The visitors will use the fixture to assess their combinations and allow players to adapt to English conditions before the competitive series begins.
Pakistan’s first Test against England is scheduled to start on August 19 at Headingley in Leeds. The second Test will be played at Lord’s, while the third and final match of the series will take place at Edgbaston.
The tour will provide a significant challenge for Pakistan, with the team looking to make the most of its preparation in English conditions. The shortened warm-up fixture will nevertheless give the players an opportunity to spend time in the middle, work on their techniques and fine-tune their plans before the opening Test.
With the first Test only days after the warm-up match, Pakistan’s management will also have to carefully manage workloads and ensure the squad enters the series fully prepared and match-ready.
