ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) and the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Committee have been reconstituted in accordance with the revised constitutional framework following the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
In line with the principles of transparency and institutional continuity, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, being the next most senior Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, has jointly been nominated as member of the Supreme Judicial Council by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan Justice Aminuddin under Clause 2 (d) of Article 209 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Justice Aamer Farooq, the next most senior Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, has jointly been nominated as a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan under Clause 2 (iiia) of Article 175A of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Furthermore, the chief justice has nominated Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, the next most senior Judge of the top court, as a member of the Committee constituted under Section 2 of the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act, 2023.
The reconstituted bodies will continue to play a central role in matters of accountability, judicial appointments, and procedural governance under the amended constitutional scheme.
In addition, Law Minister Azam Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Awan will be members of the judicial commission. Two members of parliament each from the government and the opposition will be part of the commission. A lawyer nominated by the Pakistan Bar Council and a woman nominated by the Speaker of the National Assembly will also be members of the commission.
