ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly obtained data from the mobile phones of Pakistani cricketers in London as part of an investigation involving Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan following Pakistan’s defeat in the Lord’s Test.
The sources said that the PCB has expanded the scope of its inquiry into the two players after Pakistan suffered a 194-run defeat in the Test. If concrete evidence of misconduct is found, the cricketers could face heavy fines or disciplinary action, including a possible ban.
The investigation is reportedly examining not only the activities of Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan but also their contacts and interactions with individuals during their stay in England.
Sources said that the possibility of the two players being dropped from the Pakistan national team in the future could not be ruled out, depending on the findings of the investigation.
The informed sources, after the team returned to its hotel following the defeat at Lord’s, the team’s security officer took possession of the mobile phones of both players. The phones were reportedly returned several hours later after their data had allegedly been transferred elsewhere.
The move is said to have been part of efforts to examine the players’ activities and contacts during their time in London.
However, the details of the information allegedly obtained from the devices have not been made public.
The reported investigation comes after Pakistan’s disappointing performance at Lord’s, where the team suffered a 194-run defeat, prompting the PCB to take a closer look at matters surrounding the players.
When contacted for comment, a PCB spokesperson declined to confirm whether the board had taken possession of the players’ mobile phones or obtained data from them.
The PCB has yet to issue an official statement detailing the nature or scope of any disciplinary proceedings against Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan.
