WANA — A chartered helicopter operated by Mari Petroleum Company crashed near an oil field in the Shiwa area of North Waziristan on Saturday.
Initial reports said the crash was caused by engine failure, prompting the aircraft to attempt a return landing. Unfortunately, the tail rotor struck the ground, resulting in the crash.
The chopper was carrying 14 individuals, including two foreign pilots, at the time of the incident. Emergency responders confirmed that six people lost their lives, while eight others sustained serious injuries. The victims have not yet been publicly identified.
Authorities have stated that there is no evidence to suggest that terrorism was involved in the crash. Investigations are underway to determine the precise cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
The Mi-8 helicopter, known for its vintage design, is operated by a foreign company and was transporting personnel related to oil exploration activities in the region. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
